*11:15am: “Emu in the sky” short film screening, with creator Penelope Towney facilitating in The Pod! This activity is appropriate for children aged two and above.

From 12:15pm to 2pm, activities will also be held external of the Discovery Space adjacent to the Jillian Broadbent Building, with weaving, dance, art and other activities open to children and their adults.

Indigenous Literacy Day is a poignant occasion that highlights the importance of Indigenous Literacy. Instigated by the Indigenous Literacy Foundation to raise awareness of Indigenous literacy and to improve access for regional and remote Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities to appropriate literature. It serves as a reminder of the enduring need to provide access to quality literature and educational resources for these remote communities, fostering a love for reading and learning.

We are honoured to participate in this meaningful initiative by offering book packs at cost price. These packs can be purchased by our generous visitors who wish to make a difference and contribute to Indigenous literacy efforts. By buying and donating these book packs, we can collectively help bring the joy of reading and storytelling to the hearts of children and families in remote areas, nurturing their educational journey and cultural appreciation. Together, we can make Indigenous Literacy Day a celebration of knowledge, empowerment, and unity.

Join us in supporting this worthy cause and making a positive impact in the lives of Indigenous communities across Australia.
