Friday Bytes | Starting Friday 9 February, 2024 |10am start
What: Join us for a Digital Play group, facilitated by researchers from the Australian Research Council Centre of Excellence for the Digital Child supported by Discovery Space team.
Are you keen to enhance your photography skills? Are you wanting to know how to share images on social media in safe ways? Throughout this iteration of our Digital Play groups, you will learn valuable photography techniques such as composition, understanding lighting and angles, mastering exposure times and employing props and costumes to tell a story. You will also learn how to capture candid moments and spontaneous actions to create a collection of joyful memories. And all in safe ways to protect the rights of children and their adults.
Photography is a powerful tool for storytelling, to capture precious memories in a way that considers privacy and safety. Bring your personal device (your smartphone or tablet with camera), and your little one/s. Each week we will play and while we’re doing so, show how you can capture these special moments.
Where: The Children’s Technology Play space, accessed through the Discovery Space! Participation and entry free after general entry paid to Discovery Space.
When: Join us (most!) Friday’s in February, March and April!

Eggcellent Mystery in the Discovery Space
We need your help this March to solve a problem! Imagine this … some animals have dropped their eggs all over the Discovery Space! We need your help to find the eggs and the animals they belong to.
Each Wednesday morning during March, drop in between 10am and 12pm in ‘The Pod’ Experience to solve this mystery.
Come and work with Anne Marie (a visitor to Early Start from the University of Copenhagen) and members of our Discovery Space and research teams, to solve problems and riddles each week that reveal clues to find the eggs.
Each week we will have a different focus to stimulate our brains. There will be three pathways for children and their adults – birth to age 2, age 2-3, age 3-5. You can complete one pathway or multiple, and can come for one week or all four weeks! The choice is yours.
But please, come help us find the lost eggs!
