Help make play-based learning accessible to all

This festive season, Early Start Discovery Space is encouraging members and visitors to support their Christmas Giving Tree and help make play accessible to all.

Children are naturally curious and play is a powerful and important activity. It has a natural and positive influence on children’s social, physical, emotional and cognitive development. This is particularly important for vulnerable children in our community.

Donations start from as little as $5, and will go directly to help Barnardos Australia, SCRAF and Family services Illawarra to bring purposeful play to vulnerable children and families to help break the cycle of disadvantage.

Early Start has already been working with these organisations on a variety of initiatives, including support programs, play groups, education on healthy eating, building child/parent attachment, virtual excursions and lots more. However as a not-for-profit ourselves we require additional support so we can continue to make our unique educational space and activities accessible to all.

‘It’s an honour to be involved in this year’s giving tree. We have been affiliated with the Discovery Space for many years now, running the successful Let’s Eat, Let’s Play program with disadvantaged families, teaching cooking, healthy eating, and play-based learning,” said Lynne Schubert, Practice Leader Early Intervention, Family Services Australia

Every donation will receive a special decoration to personalise and stick on our Giving Tree. You can donate online or in person at our Front Desk.

Matt Ball, Community & Volunteer Coordinator, Early Start Discovery Space said “thank you to those who have already donated, we have raised over $500 so far, but any amount will help us on a mission to share the power of play.”

Research = Experiences

Play is one of the most powerful ways to learn. That’s why all our experiences are informed by early childhood researchers from UOW.
