Celebrate the Year of the Rat

Saturday 25 January – Sunday 9 February

Join us at the Discovery Space as we usher in the Year of the Rat! We have a two-week program filled with Lunar New Year-inspired activities, including Shaolin Warrior Martial Arts performance, dragon sculpture art, and a daily Dragon Parade!

All activities are FREE after entry.

Activities:

Pat a Pony
We’ve taken inspiration from the seventh Chinese zodiac animal – the horse – by inviting some very special ponies into the Discovery Space.
Join us for a story and get up-close and personal with a pony.

TIME: 10am, 10.45am, 11.30am & 12.15pm
COST: Free after entry. Places are limited. Book in at the front desk on the day.
Please note, ponies will not be ridden on the day.

Shaolin Warrior Martial Arts Performance 
Be introduced to Shaolin Temple and martial arts history in this breathtaking presentation. View unarmed and weapons training drills, and be blown away by the board-breaking demonstrations!

Dragon Sculptures
Chinese dragons symbolise wisdom, power and wealth, and they are believed to bring good luck. Joins us during Art time and get busy designing your own piece of a Dragon’s body, and then use your creation in our Dragon Parade!

Dragon Parade
Want to learn an ancient traditional Chinese dance? Then join us during ‘Time to Perform’ to take part in a Dragon Dance. Show off your designs from Art time as you become the body of a Dragon and help celebrate Lunar New Year!
